A Word About This Job and I

Despite modern connotations of the word "missionary," I'm really a normal person.  I enjoy volunteering, walking in nature, movie nights, and many forms of personality typing (maybe that's not normal).  Also, The Phantom of the Opera slaps. Pictured above is my immediate family—I'd appreciate your prayers for them during my absence.

From January 2022 through October 2023, I'm commissioned to serve as the Holistic Ministries Coordinator in Lomé, Togo as an IMB Journeyman.  This means that I'll be helping the Assistant Health Coach Strategist for West Africa in setting up a humanitarian efforts program.  The ultimate goal of this, of course, is the advancement of God's Kingdom through gospel-sharing and healthy theology.  My teammates are the Yoakum family and several Togolese locals.

Togo is a generally poor country, so the physical needs are great.  However, as the birthplace of voodoo and the recipient of America's prosperity gospel, spiritual needs are greater.

There's really nothing special to know about me. This is my first post-grad job in a nation where I don't know the land, the cultural norms, the people, or even the language.  But I do know that God is good, that He desires to be known by the people of Togo, and that His power is perfected in weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9-11).  Any fruit that comes from this term is a direct result of the Lord's hand over the situation, and we're praying for lots of it!
